Historic Moment

I'm having my first morning devotions in our new home! The tea is steaming, the sun is rising out the front windows, birds are beginning to wake, my family is still asleep, and the shadows on the walls and furniture are changing as the light outside grows gradually brighter. The first person I want to greet is my Beloved, the one who created my being and knows my thoughts.

Ha! The children are apparently caught up in the delight of the morning as well, for they just appeared with big smiles on their faces, ready to begin a new day. I sent them back to bed for a few more minutes, reminding them that they wanted me to wake them by playing piano for them, so now they are waiting for the first tinkling notes to summon their reappearance.

I had better finish my Bible and prayer time, or they will descend again and this time will be over almost before it's begun!

O Lord, You have examined my heart

and know everything about me.

You know when I sit down or stand up.

You know my thoughts even when I'm far away.

You see me when I travel and when I rest at home.

You know everything I do.

You know what I am going to say even before I say it, Lord.

You go before me and follow me.

You place Your hand of blessing on my head.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too great for me to understand!
